The Fourth Division of the National Army recognizes the importance of preserving the Colombian Amazonas region, an extension of land rich in flora and fauna that represent the lung of the world.
Under the guidelines of Operation Artemisa, troops of the Thirty-First Brigade, a unit attached to the Fourth Division of the Army, in the department of Vaupés and in coordination with the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Prosecutor's Office, through a military operation Seeking to prevent extensive deforestation in the municipality of Mitú, they capture two people.
In a wooded area of this region, near the Ceima San Pablo indigenous community, troops of the 30th Infantry Battalion, found a group of people, apparently belonging to common crime, who were perpetrating the indiscriminate cutting of trees, as an illegal form of financing.
In the place there were two individuals who, when caught in flagrante delicto, were captured for the crime of illicit use of renewable natural resources and put into custody of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Vaupés Prosecutor's Office.
During the search area carried out by the soldiers of Brigade No.31, they found nine wooden beams of 8 meters each, 26 wooden slats of 4 meters, 4 wooden slats of 2.20 meters, 140 boards and 4 wooden stands. This material was put into custody of the authority.
“We have an institutional and unrestricted commitment to the Vaupés department and its resources. This year, thanks to the continuous work of the troops, four individuals have been captured, who have been prosecuted for this crime. In the same way, we have found 5.29 cubic meters of wood, the product of illegal logging in the region,” said Colonel Janner Cortés Rojas, commander of the Thirty-First Brigade, who in the same way invited the community to join efforts to protect the environment.
