After the statements, a few minutes ago, at the Ministry of National Defense, by the President of the Republic, at the end of the Security Council, we report:
1. In the early morning of today, December 6, 2022, troops attached to the Infantry Battalion No.8 those who were in the vicinity of the Munchique village, in the municipality of Buenos Aires (Cauca), carrying out work to ensure the protection and security of the inhabitants of this sector, according to the first information, were attacked indiscriminately by members of the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r Jaime Martínez.
2. As a result of this criminal action, our soldiers Jean Gilberto Rodríguez Obando, Jerson Rafael Mamián Mojomboy, Jonathan Ernesto Ordóñez Pestaña, Luis Armando Vélez Moreno, Esleider Alexander Portocarrero and Yonny Saac Ruiz were killed. While one officer and six soldiers were wounded.
3. Our wounded personnel at this time are being assisted in care centers and according to the medical report, they are stable.
4. The institution rejects the murder of our soldiers perpetrated by the GAO-r Jaime Martínez, which is a flagrant violation of human rights and International Humanitarian Law. These facts will be reported to the appropriate instances.
5. The National Army sends a heartfelt greeting of condolences to the relatives and partners of our soldiers killed in the line of duty, and has arranged a team of the Family Directorate to provide them with accompaniment and support at this time.
6. In the same way the Army sent a team to attend and follow up on our injured personnel.
7. At this time, the Commander of the Military Forces and of the National Army are moving to the Third Division zone to support the units that are carrying out operations, as well as reviewing the situation.
8. The National Army will continue to work in this area of the country in order to maintain its military operation in fulfillment of its constitutional mission to work for and protect the life and good physical condition of the inhabitants of this region of the country.
