With the presence of the military, police, civil and ecclesiastical authorities, the ceremony of recognition of the operation of the oldest military institution in the country was held.

In the parades field of the Guías del Casanare Mounted Cavalry Group, of the Sixteenth Brigade of the National Army, the military ceremony was held in commemoration of the Battle of Boyacá and the National Army Day that is celebrated every August 7 where the operation of the Military Institution is recognized and honored for its leadership as in the past, as in the present and in the crucial role in the future.

A group of brave soldiers defeated the Royalist troops on a small bridge over the Teatinos River, in the Battle of Boyacá. Today, due to issues of national importance, this date was commemorated by civil, military, police, ecclesiastical and relief authorities in the department of Casanare, who thanked the soldiers for the operation in this part of the country.

The military ceremony was presided over by Major General Jorge Eduardo Mora López, commander of the Eighth Division, who highlighted this important national date and decorated the war flags of the Eighth Division and the Comprehensive Action and Development Battalion No.8. In the same way, a group of officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers who have been outstanding in their institutional commitment, excellent behavior and military virtues were in the same way decorated.

Historical review

With the Battle of Boyacá, the Liberation Campaign of August 7, 1819, was completed, it was carried out in a short period of 77 days, since May 23, when the Liberator Simón Bolívar explained the military plan in the Aldea de Setenta to the heads of the Patriot Army

This historical event of great importance that defined the triumph for the Independence Patriots of New Granada, culminated with the War of Independence, led to the organization and definitive consolidation of the Republic of Colombia and facilitated the development and triumph for other campaigns throughout South America.

That is why this same day is celebrated the Day of the National Army of Colombia.

On this memorable date, each of the brave soldiers of the Eighth Division of the National Army are deeply proud to celebrate one more anniversary of the Battle of Boyacá and the Day of the National Army commemorating that day on August 7, 1819, when the pages of Colombian history were written in blood, as a symbol of respect and freedom.

They are soldiers whose objective is the defense, preservation and custody of the life and property of the Colombian people. They are true heroes who carry their homeland by flag and where many of them have dies in acts of bravery for the defense of their oath.
