Colombian Navy finds more than 6.7 tons of cocaine in international operations

During 2022, the Caribbean Naval Force has found more than 67 tons of this illicit substance thanks to international cooperation agreements.

 

The Navy of Colombia in the framework of the agreements of constant international cooperation with different countries, obtained the finding of 6,721 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride that exceed US$ 226 million in the illegal market, in the frame of the development of combined international operations with authorities in Spain, united States, Panama, United Kingdom and Dominican Republic.

 

The first operations were carried out by the Navy of Colombia and the National Service air-sea - SENAN of Panama, which led to the interception of a ship with 141 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride in the northeast of El Porvenir, Comarca Guna Yala and the finding of a go fast boat that was hidden among the mangroves with 814 kg of this substance in the perimeter Escribano, near Colón, in the central Caribbean.

 

In another international operation conducted with authorities in Spain and the United Kindom, it was possible the finding of 715 kilograms of cocaine during the inspection of a ship from Malta, in the port of Algeciras – Spain; of which, 417 kilograms, were hidden in a compartment of the deck and other 298 kilograms were in the hull of the boat.

 

The cooperative work conducted by the Colombian Navy and the United Kingdom authorities in the same way led to important results in the Port of Southampton - England. The first result was given during the inspection of a Liberian-flagged boat, where 96 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were found by troops and, subsequently, 480 kilograms of the narcotic were found by troops inside two containers that were transported aboard a Portuguese-flagged boat.

 

Within the framework of the agreements that the Colombian Navy has signed with the Joint Interagency Task Force of the United States Southern Command (JIATFS), five maritime interception operations were carried out in which 2,847 kilograms of cocaine transported in speedboats were found by troops at the time individuals intended to traffic these substances to different countries in Central and North America.

 

Continuing with this operation, the Colombian Navy, together with the Dominican Republic Navy, the National Directorate against Drugs and JIFTS, carried out the maritime interception of three speedboats with 630, 500 and 498 kilograms of cocaine, which were transported from Colombia to the Dominican Republic.

 

In 2022, within the framework of international cooperation agreements, the Colombian Navy in the Caribbean has managed to prevent the trafficking of more than 67 tons of illicit substances. With this decisive operation, the commercialization of more than 168 million doses on the streets of the world has been prevented and 2,270 million dollars have stopped entering the finances of transnational drug trafficking organizations.
