This week the Almirante Padilla Naval Cadet School received the visit of a delegation of the Defense Education Improvement Program (DEEP for its acronym in English), of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, in order to know the resources for the training and instruction of the Officers of the Colombian Navy, of the Merchant Navy and professionals of the maritime, river and port sector.

The personnel were received at the alma mater of the Colombian naval institution in Cartagena, by Rear Admiral León Ernesto Espinosa Torres, Head of the Comprehensive Naval Education Headquarters of the Colombian Navy and Rear Admiral Javier Alfonso Jaimes Pinilla, Director of the Almirante Padilla Naval Cadet School.

During the visit a tour by the Center of Research, Development and Innovation for Maritime Activities took place, where they saw the technology and Resources of the university to incorporate virtual reality and simulation to teaching and research on maritime issues.

Then, they toured the classroom building, where a group of them made an observation to the English classes, evidencing the methodologies implemented by the Language Center for the teaching of a second language.

Regarding this observation, Branka Petek, Director of the School of Foreign Languages of the Slovenian Military Forces and President of the NATO Office for International Linguistic Coordination, said that “they are very good teachers because they use different methods and try to get the students involved, and the students have fun and are willing to talk and share information, which shows that they are used to such activities.”

The activity culminated with an institutional presentation, where the educational model, the academic experience and the challenges for the alma mater of the naval institution were presented.

“These environments provide the Naval Cadet School with an exchange of information that seeks, on the one hand, the strengthening of the training and instruction processes that are being carried out, as well as the improving of institutional quality,” said Rear Admiral Javier Alfonso Jaimes Pinilla.
