Since 2018, 111 submarines have been found.
At the Naval Base of Bahía Málaga in the Colombian Pacific, the Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, announced a major blow against the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, with Operation Senen, which left the finding of a semi-submarine, the neutralization of an individual and the arrest of three members of the organization.
“Thanks to the work of our National Navy and the navy men in the Colombian Pacific, the threat of a Nicaraguan, responsible for the operations of that criminal structure that had relations with the drug cartels, was neutralized,” the Minister said.
He in the same way noted that this operation was possible thanks to a special team of 12 divers of this Infantry unit.
“It was possible to reach the point where there was a camp of the GAO Clan del Golfo structure that not only had a variety of long weapons and military accessories, but in the same way a submarine with a capacity for three tons which was destined for routes to Central America. In the same way, three members of this GAO Clan del Golfo structure were arrested," explained Minister Molano.
The head of the ministry of Defense said that the result of this operation shows that the GAO Clan del Golfo not only seeks to operate with drug and operations on the Pacific Coast, but in the same way has links to commercialize this transnational business with Central America, as it has historically been demonstrated with the finding of this type of ships.
“Today we can inform that in the history of Colombia, since 1993, about 227 illegal devices have been found, including semi-submarines, submarines and low-profile boats. During the three years of President Duque's government, from August 7, 2018 to date, there are 111 semi-submarines, 66 have been found in Colombian territory, 56 in the Pacific, one in the Caribbean and nine in international waters,” said the Minister.
In addition, he said that these semi-submarines have carried about 130 thousand kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, 700 kilograms of marijuana, being Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica and El Salvador, the most used by drug traffickers.
Finally, the Minister took the opportunity to salute and recognize the tireless work of all the units that have made operations against these semi sub marines and the important operation of divers of the Navy Infantry in the Colombian Pacific, “You meet a critical role, ensuring the sovereignty over our Pacific Coast and upon our seas,” he said.
