The department of Vaupés, has unique tourist attractions, thanks to its cultural and natural riches, this being the essence that captivates visitors who come to the land of the jungle and the stream.

To move around the region, the rivers are the main means to reach the different destinations, since the territory is surrounded in a large percentage by the waters of the river Vaupés; it is a land that these days presents in some villages floods. It is precisely by canoes and motorboats, that it is possible to reach the indigenous reservations in non-municipalized areas and near the capital city.

To get to the Urania community in Mitú, Vaupés, it is necessary to travel 20 minutes by boat and half an hour more walking, time that takes the soldiers of the National Army and the civil authorities of the department to work for the conservation of the ancestral cultures of the region and for the well-being of its inhabitants.

The soldiers of the National Army are respectful of their traditions and share with their inhabitants the ideal of contributing to Colombia their knowledge and missions. The members of the Military Forces arrived in this reservation with humanitarian aid and a lot of fun for the little ones, leaving a message that the Institution works to protect its people and ensures their well-being.

35 families live in this settlement, composed of more than 240 people, being mostly women and children, people who extend their ancestral legacy to the rest of the country and the world.

Yavaraté, is a non-municipalized area of the department that is in the border area with Brazil; there the Vaupés and Papurí rivers join; it is a geographical condition that makes this place a favorite tourist destination for locals and foreigners.

It is 134 kilometers away of the municipality of Mitú and to reach this territory, soldiers must take a boat trip that takes two days and according to weather conditions must overcome various situations. In the rain, facing heavy rains and rising of the river Vaupés and during the dry season, the cachiveras, which consist of rocks that make navigation difficult, force the crew to come down out of the boat and drag it to the nearest water flow.

With the departmental Government, the soldiers arrived to provide health and recreation, thus benefiting more than 70 inhabitants.

The institutional work, in this sector of the country, becomes a way of creating national identity among the inhabitants, due to its proximity to the neighboring country, Brazil. In the place, the soldiers pay honor to the flag singing the notes of the anthem of the Republic of Colombia, in a landmark, which is used as a symbol that represents our country and that seeks that the inhabitants of the municipality of Yavaraté, feel proud to be Colombians.
