Military forces join the International Week Of The Disappeared detainees

cogfm-ccoet-semana-internacional-del-detenido-desaparecido-24.jpg

The General Command of the military forces, through the Joint Strategic Transition Command, joins the international week of the Disappeared detainees, which is commemorated from 24 to 30 May, in order to make visible the thousands of members of the Military Forces and their families, victims of this violation of International Humanitarian Law.

For several decades, organized armed groups perpetrated the disappearance as part of their criminal activities, leaving 50,412 victims of this crime, according to data from the unit for Comprehensive Care and reparation to victims. Within this figure, it can be found that some of the most hit by this act are military and police officers, 6,687 victims.

The families of the members of the Military Forces are currently continuing to search for their loved ones and in the struggle for memory not to be erased from history. It is important to note that many cases of military and police officers who disappeared correspond to situations in which they were on vacation, on permission, dressed in civilian clothes, without weapons, out of military operations and in a state of absolute defenselessness.

The General Command of the Military Forces, in permanent coordination with institutions such as the Unit for the Search for Missing Persons, continues to provide information for the search of its members, promoting actions that contribute to the memory of what has been suffered by Colombians in the hands of organized armed groups and in this way prevent this crime repetition.
