In the context of Operation Artemisa, a person was caught while he carrying out illegal mining activities in La Aurora neighborhood, in the locality of Usme in the south of the capital city.

The individual will have to answer for the crimes of illegal mining, environmental pollution, as well as for the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits, damage to natural resources, environmental pollution and energy fraud to the Bogotá energy company (EEB).

The operation that led to the closure of this illegal mine was carried out jointly by the Artillery Battalion No.13 General Fernando Landazábal Reyes, the Infantry Battalion No.39 Sumapaz, of the Thirteenth Brigade and the Brigade Against Illegal Mining of the National Army, in coordination with the Carabineros group of the National Police, achieving the finding of weapons, tools and heavy machinery that would have a cost of 192 million pesos.

“With the blow to this illegal group, the reduction to the environmental impact is achieved directly to a large percentage of land that was being hit by this illegal activity, with a cost of recovery of environmental damage of approximately 3.840 million pesos in production materials and about 1.500 million pesos in energy fraud to the Codensa company,” said Lieutenant Colonel Pablo González, commander of the Artillery Battalion No.13.
