National Army carried out an inter-agency Development Support Activity at the Kemberdé Indigenous Reservation

This humanitarian activity carried out in the department of Risaralda demanded a logistics operation of more than 20 hours of flight for the transport of medical equipment, humanitarian aid, donations and all the necessary to conduct the activity during 48 hours to provide support to hundreds of children, women and members of indigenous communities gathered in the indigenous community of Kemberdé.

 

This activity of support for development, humanitarian and social support, was carried out since last Monday, October 19, and ended today in this territory an hour and a half walking of the municipality of Santa Cecilia, in Pueblo Rico, in Risaralda.

 

This activity, organized by the National Army, with the support of national and departmental institutions, as well as public and private institutions in the region, benefited approximately 5,000 people from 24 indigenous communities; 1,300 families comprising children, young people and adults were assisted.

 

It should be noted that on the second day of the great activity, the Embera Katío Indigenous community received the visit of Major General Carlos Iván Moreno Ojeda, second commander of the National Army; Major General Germán Lopez Guerrero, chief of Staff of the Army; the military commanders of the region, delegates of the Colombian Institute of family Wellbeing (ICBF), the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the Civil Defense, Colombian Red Cross and Mr. Victor Manuel Tamayo, the governor of Risaralda, who arrived with an investment of 1000 million pesos including baskets of food, medicines, school kits, desks, clothes, boots, recreation, items for refurbishment of houses and transportation of health personnel.

 

During the activity, the community received services in general medicine, dentistry, optometry, Pediatrics, vaccination, hairdressing, tailoring, legal and financial counseling; in addition, children enjoy presents, school kits and recreational and cultural activities, such as face painting, balloon twisting, drawing and painting workshop and dance competitions, among others.

 

During the activity, an emergency arose. An indigenous girl presenting respiratory complications, was evacuated in one of the aircraft of the National Army from El Resguardo to the Municipal Hospital San Rafael de Pueblo Rico, Risaralda, where at this time she is assisted by medical personnel.

 

The governor of the Risaralda department, in conjunction with the commanders of the Army, assured the construction of the health post for the Reservation La Punta, amendments to 22 schools, an agreement with the University Corporation Santa Rosa de Cabal (Unisarc), to provide higher education programs to this community, and the construction of four bridges and the financing of studies and designs for two other bridges.
