At the International Peace Operations Center, Cencopaz, and in the facilities of the Navy Infantry Brigade No.1, the Humanitarian Demining Company of the Colombian Navy, carried out a series of recurrent training exercises and updating procedures and operational methods in Military Demining and Humanitarian Demining. The trainings were held in Corozal and Coveñas, in the department of Sucre.
183 members of the Naval Institution, including Officers, NCOs and infantry men, received, for a month, training and instruction to strengthen their knowledge in manual demining techniques, use of metal detectors and medical evacuation.
This military training was led by instructors of the International Demining Center of the National Army (CIES) and CENCOPAZ, delegates of the Organization of American States - OAS for Comprehensive Action Against Mines - AICMA and Brazilian Officers of the Inter-American Defense Board, JID, supervised the different phases of the training.
To date, seven municipalities are free of contamination with Antipersonnel Mines for a total of 3,400,144 square meters free of this situation, in Corozal, Los Palmitos, Morroa and Sincelejo, in the departments of Sucre and Córdoba and in the same way, in Santa Rosa and Villanueva, in the department of Bolívar.
For this year, the Humanitarian Demining Company of the Navy of Colombia, plans to add to the list of territories free of suspicion of Antipersonnel Mines the municipalities of Chalán, Ovejas and San Onofre, in Sucre, as well as Cartagena and El Guamo, in the department of Bolivar.
