According to the information provided by the Naval Intelligence, an area in which the individuals would hold a meeting in the rural area of the municipality of López de Micay, in the department of Cauca, was established to conduct logistical coordination on drug trafficking routes that would be used to distribute the alkaloid to Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and later eventually to the United States.
The troops of the Infantry Battalion No.42, attached to the Marine Infantry Brigade No.2, arrived in an area known as Boca Grande, in the rural area of the municipality of López de Micay, where they found the individuals inside a house. The operation was supported by the troops of the Twenty-ninth Brigade of the National Army.
Among the captured the are a Mexican, four Nicaraguans and six Costa Ricans, who at the time of capture, carried two 5.56-millimeter MP5 rifles, a 45-millimeter Glock pistol, 108 cartridges for rifles, one kilogram of marijuana and communications equipment.
The 11 individuals were put into custody of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, for the crime of manufacturing, trafficking and carrying firearms and ammunition as well as trafficking, manufacture and carrying of narcotics.
This year, the Pacific Naval Force has found more than 36 tons of cocaine hydrochloride, preventing more than 1.2 billion dollars from entering drug trafficking organizations, as a result of its sale in the international illegal market. In the same way, it has managed to capture 113 individuals of the drug trafficking organizations.
