Within the framework of the Ayacucho PLUS Plan, troops of the Rapid Deployment Force No. 6 achieved an important result of the military operation by finding and destroying an illegal hiding place in the village of Palmas del Yurilla, a rural area of the municipality of Puerto Guzmán, in the department of Putumayo. The operation was carried out thanks to military intelligence work that led to identifying the exact point where the Residual Organized Armed Group Comandos de Frontera, the so called National Coordinator of the Bolivarian Army was hiding explosive material and military accessories.
During the operation, four metal magazines for M4 rifle, three hundred and eighty 5.56 mm caliber cartridges and thirty-five 7.62 mm linked caliber cartridges were found by troops. In the same way, the military team destroyed in controlled conditions an illegal hideout containing five 60-millimeter MUNAB grenades, seven electric detonators, ten AE-type explosive devices and one kilogram of black powder, elements designed to carry out terrorist operations in the region.
In the same area, military accessories material made of elements that show the activity and movement of members of this criminal structure in the sector were in the same way found.
This result leads to directly neutralizing the logistical and criminal capacity of the GAO-r, preventing the explosive material from being used to disturb the inhabitants, the troops of Colombian National Army or the constructions of the State. The review of the place and the controlled destruction of the hiding place were in charge of the EXDE team of the unit, which complied with all the security protocols established for this type of procedures.
