As part of the work to counter the problem of drug trafficking in Colombia, troops of the Command Against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats (CONAT), within the framework of a military operation, found in a laboratory used for the production of coca base paste, 1,221 gallons of this narcotic in process.
Soldiers of the Ground Operations Battalion No. 8 in the village of Miramonte, municipality of Tibú, Department of Norte de Santander, found this laboratory apparently belonging to the Luis Enrique León Guerra front, of the GAO ELN, where the troops discovered 850 kilograms of solid precursors and 186 gallons of fuel, used for the production of coca base paste.
This finding hits the illicit finances of the GAO ELN at an approximate cost of 518,191,600 pesos and weakens the drug trafficking chain in the Catatumbo region.
The coca paste base in process finding represents a major blow to the drug trafficking and illicit economy of the GAO ELN in the Department of Norte de Santander.
The systematic practice of adapting rustic structures such as laboratories to produce drugs continues to damage the environment and water sources, with the use of chemicals to obtain coca base paste or cocaine hydrochloride.
