Within the framework of Operation Magnesio, carried out jointly by the Colombian Aerospace Force, Colombian National Army and the Colombian Navy, it was possible to find more than 19 tons of mineral with characteristics similar to coltan.
The events occurred in the urban area of the municipality of Cumaribo, department of Vichada, given that intelligence information led to generate an alert, so that the troops on the ground carried out control searches to a tractor-trailer type vehicle, coming from the municipality of Puerto Nariño, thus preventing its way towards the interior of the country.
With the military operations, it was possible an economic damage of more than 27 billion pesos to those who planned to profit of the illicit exploitation of minerals.
This finding reflects the coordinated work conducted by military forces against illegal mining, which carries out operations in defense of the environment and security in eastern Colombia.
