20 years of the High Mountain Battalion 3 that guards the Vallecaucanos of the western cordillera

For 20 years, the Rodrigo Lloreda Caicedo High Mountain Battalion has been fundamental for security in the Farallones of Cali, a vital ecosystem for the region.

 

The Third Brigade of the National Army celebrates one more year of the High Mountain Battalion No.3 Rodrigo Lloreda Caicedo, a unit that continues to provide a comprehensive security service in an area that for many years was the center of criminal and terrorist operations.

 

This Battalion named in honor of the former Minister of Defense of that time, Rodrigo Lloreda Caicedo, is more than 2000 meters above the sea in the Diamante village of the village of Felidia, in rural Cali, Valle del Cauca, where it carries out operations aimed at raising the security and protection of the territory and its inhabitants.

 

It is responsible for guarding 23 villages such as San Francisco del Naya and Aguas Claras in the municipality of Buenaventura and Villa Colombia and San Antonio, in the upper part of Jamund铆. In the same way, other strategic and highly important areas for the ecosystem such as the village of El Saladito in Cali, the villages of Anchicay谩, El Queremal and Tocot谩 in Dagua and the entire ancient road to the sea, among others.

 

Its operation is of vital importance for security of the western border and the road to the sea where 85% of the country's imports and exports move. Due to its strategic location, it has been the object of multiple criminal activities such as illegal mining and kidnapping, with the presence of actors outlaw and drug trafficking.

 

For more than 7 years, and as a result of the effects generated by illegal mining, in the upper area of Los Farallones, the Third Brigade of the Army has been coordinating with the National Police, the Mayor's Office of Cali and the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Valle del Cauca (CVC) the protection, with the troops, of this important zone.

 

The operation of this military unit in the same way has a social and environmental component through which it has created trust among the community, supporting activities that improve its development and promoting environmental protection.

 

To do this, it carries out activities such as services fairs, distribution of food baskets, planting trees, cleaning water sources, improving schools and recreation, among others, thus supporting community and local government initiatives.

 

During its celebration, the High Mountain Battalion N掳 3 Rodrigo Lloreda Caicedo granted medals of the different municipalities that are part of its area of responsibility to personnel of this battalion and the Reserve, in addition to a wreath laying ceremony to remember the men soldiers who have lost their lives in the last two decades while fulfilling their duty.

 

This unit, the symbol of the Cale帽os and Vallecaucanos will continue to work for the inhabitants of this important sector of the department.
