Bogotá D.C. At the end of 2018, an increase of 40 percent was reported in the figures related to computer crimes, which rise from 15,962 in 2017 to 22,366 cases reported by the authorities. This was revealed by the Minister of Defense, Guillermo Botero, during the Cyber Defense Conference of the Western Hemisphere.

"These figures force us to have a more adequate response to cybercrimes. For example, at the level of computer incidents, we had 8,090 cases in 2017 which increased to 11,529 in 2018, in the same way with a growth of 46 percent," said the Minister.

In the same way, Botero explained that on the issue of child pornography, "an issue that worries us immensely," the prosecution of 399 people has been achieved and 6,562 websites of pornography have been blocked.

"Blocking this type of web pages has been a significant, as well as it has happened with the 2,615 pages of illegal betting that damage the finances of the State and that are not reliable for the citizens who participate in them," said the Chief of Defense.

The Western Hemisphere Cyber Defense Conference, held in Bogotá, brought together military, governmental authorities, academic and private representatives and seeks to improve and strengthen cooperation in cybernetic matters in the different countries of the region.
