The Head of the Defense urged the heads of the departments to focus their management and time of their administrations on the protection of life, territory and democracy.
Positive security report for the year was revealed by the Minister of National Defense, during the Governors' Summit.
In the midst of the Governors' Summit, held in the capital city of Cordoba department, the Minister of National Defense, Pedro Sánchez Suárez, arrived with a message of tranquility in the face of expectations of territorial control and security for the legislative and presidential elections to be held in the first semester of 2026, and presented some figures related to the crime groups throughout the country.
“The number of units that we are going to deploy at the national level is 246,000 members of the Military Forces, military and police officers, to cover 100% of the voting stations,” warned the minister, speking in the first instance to the 13,493 vote positions arranged by the electoral organization for the upcoming elections on March 8.
In the same sense, the Minister assured that the main threats, or electoral crimes identified, are those related to violence or disruption of the democratic contest, fraudulent voting and corruption of the suffragette, so he warned that organized armed groups and drug trafficking cartels (possible generators of violence) are facing the determined action of the Military Forces, with the aim of neutralizing and anticipating any terrorist act that these criminals could commit against the inhabitants.
The bombing at the beginning of February in Catatumbo region against the Eln cartel, as well as the elimination of alias Santiago (a member of this same criminal organization) and alias Polo (a member of Ivan Mordisco's security group), were highlighted by Minister Sánchez, within the framework of the Governors' Summit, with the aim of emphasizing the constant struggle of members of the Military Forces of the Military Forces against the various criminal organizations that commit crimes in the territory.
Finally, the Minister affirmed that so far this year there have been no cases of intentional homicide in 63% of the country's municipalities, in the same way 98% of the municipalities enjoy freedom conditions, as there have been no kidnappings, and extortion has not knocked on the door of 83% of the municipalities. However, the minister revealed his concern about the crimes of personal injury and domestic violence, because in the 50 days of 2026, about 800 municipalities have already reported cases related to this type of crime. “We are worried that the violence comes from the people themselves (...) we have to make a very big effort to educate children and families,” said the minister.
