25,557 weapons will be melted in Tuta, Boyac谩

The General Command of the Military Forces through the Department of Control of firearms, Ammunition and Explosives (DCCA) will carry out, from Tuesday 02 to Thursday 04 April, the 'First melting of firearms 2019', in the furnaces of the steelmaker Gerdau Diaco Company, in Tuta, in the department of Boyac谩.

 

This activity began at 11:00 in the morning and was chaired by the Inspector General of the Military Forces, Major General Jorge Le贸n Gonz谩lez Parra.

 

With this activity, the Decree 2535 of 1993 fulfils with the articles 92 and 100 in compliance with international commitments such as the Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of Firearms (CIFTA) and the Program of United Nations.

 

This is the result of the joint effort of the Military Forces, the National Police, the Attorney General's Office and other judicial institutions. 25,557 weapons have been collected, including 11,694 revolvers, 3,344 rudimentary shotguns, 4,817 pistols, 2,889 fusils de chasse, 808 shotguns, 875 rifles, 382 shotguns, 230 carbines, 197 submachineguns, 23 grenade launchers, 34 mortars, seven machineguns, a rocket launcher and 83 rudimentary revolvers that have been seized from Residual Organized Armed Groups, the ELN , among other criminal groups at the service of drug trafficking and common criminality.

 

For three days will, in the same way, will be melted those weapons voluntarily given by 1,993 good citizens who no longer wish to continue with them and prefer to disarm voluntarily and gave them to the State, as a gesture of peace and culture.

 

The statistics indicate that from 1992 to 2018, the General Command of the Military Forces has melted 525,473 firearms.
