After a chase that lasted more than an hour, the Colombian Navy, conducted in the waters of the Colombian Pacific, the interdiction of a ship manned by three individuals; two of Colombian nationality and one of Ecuadorian nationality, who, apparently, were transporting more than a ton of narcotics, which would have been destined for Central America.
The interdiction began when a Naval Institution ship in the area detected, through its radars, a motorboat that was moving suspiciously, 70 nautical miles of the municipality of Tumaco, in the department of Nari帽o. Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit - URR of the Coast Guard Station of Buenaventura, moved to the place to carry out the corresponding inspection.
Despite the attempts to flee, the authorities intercepted the suspicious ship, finding on board, three individuals carrying 51 packages, which, due to their different shapes and sizes, would resemble illicit substances. During the operation, 208 shark fins and various communication equipment were in the same way seized.
The difficult climatic conditions in the area caused cracks in the structure of the intercepted motorboat, which caused its sinking; however, thanks to the quick operation of the Colombian Sailors, it was possible to rescue the individuals and recover the material.
The detained personnel and the seized material were taken to the Tumaco Coast Guard Station, where officials of the Technical Investigation Corps - CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test - PIPH, determining that the packages contained 1,383 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
The individuals and the drug were put into custody of the Prosecutor's Office, to conduct the corresponding legal procedures. For its part, the 208 shark fins were put into custody of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Nari帽o - CORPONARI脩O, the institution in charge of carrying out the relevant procedures.
With this result, more than 66 million dollars stopped entering the finances of these criminal structures and the marketing of more than 3.4 million doses of narcotics on the streets of the world was prevented.
