The Colombian Navy, within the framework of comprehensive maritime control and security operations, safeguarded the lives of nine Colombians, who had been adrift on board a ship, apparently due to engine failures, in Colombian Pacific waters.
The search and rescue operation began when the Traffic Control and Maritime Surveillance System of the Buenaventura Port Authority received an alert from the captain of the ship named Binney, who said that the boat in which he was traveling to the municipality of Bahía Solano, department of Chocó, was drifting, after having a loss of propulsion in its engines. Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit –URR - of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station was deployed to begin the search in the said area.
After several hours, the Colombian Sailors found the ship 40 nautical miles of the Special District of Buenaventura, finding nine crew members on board, who were checked their health status and provided with accompaniment and security, while the coordination was made to tow the ship to a safe anchoring area, near Juanchaco.
