After six days adrift, three fishermen rescued near Malpelo

Among the three rescued are two Panamanians.

Seven nautical miles from the Island of Malpelo, found approximately 36 hours of navigation of the port of Buenaventura - Valle del Cauca, the Military Forces found a boat manned by three men in poor health conditions, because they had been adrift for six days and without food.

A Colombian Navy ship in the Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, detected through its radars a drifting ship and immediately deployed a Coast Guard unit to verify the situation. The military personnel found three men on the boat named Aguila I, one of them had severe dehydration and seizure episodes. The men were taken along with the boat to the ARC 7 de Agosto ship, where they received medical assistance to stabilize them, hydration and food.

According to what was stated by one of the Colombian fishermen, he and his two Panamanian companions, had set sail on February 9 from Buenaventura – Valle del Cauca, towards Cabo Corrientes in the department of Chocó, when during the navigation the engine had faults which along with the heavy weather conditions caused them to move away of the coast, lasting six days adrift.

The navy ship took them to the port of Buenaventura, already recovered and in good health, to be reunited with their families.

So far this year, the Colombian Navy in the Colombian Pacific has rescued and evacuated 18 people alive, who had suffered some kind of emergency at sea.
