The action Plan has obtained a great reduction in the homicide rate in Cali.
During the security meeting, progress was evaluated and concrete operations were defined in favor of the wellbeing and protection of the inhabitants of Valle del Cauca people.
In order to analyze the law and order situation in Cali and in the department of Valle del Cauca in general, a security meeting was held headed by the Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez Suárez, with the participation of Governor Dilian Francisca Toro, Mayor Alejandro Éder, and the military and Police commanders.
The meeting, held at the Marco Fidel Suárez Military Aviation School of the Colombian Aerospace Force, led to progress in the coordination of strategies to face the main security challenges in the region.
One of the main announcements was the upcoming implementation of an ambitious Agri-food Transformation Plan in the municipality of Jamundí, a strategic area of southwestern Colombia.
The main objective of this plan is to increase food security and transform Jamundí into a regional agricultural pantry. At the same time, it seeks to work to provide lawful, sustainable and autonomous income-generating alternatives for peasant communities, promoting the substitution of illicit activities and the transition to legality.
Minister Sánchez highlighted that this strategy with the Mayor's Office of Cali, will combine territorial security, rural development, peasant pride and community freedom, weakening the financial and territorial control exercised by organized armed groups over this region.
During his speech, the Minister in the same way highlighted the progress of the Plan executed by the Military Forces in coordination with the Mayor's Office of Cali, which has led to a substantial reduction in homicides, going from 4.4 crimes per day to 1.2 in recent weeks.
"Safety is not a goal, it is a permanent responsibility. Every protected life is a step towards a more just and peaceful Colombia," the senior official reiterated.
Finally, the strengthening of intelligence resources and anticipation of military operations was announced in Cali and other municipalities of Valle del Cauca, in order to prevent and counter in a timely manner the criminal operations of illegal armed groups.
As part of these security operations, the arrest of a second individual allegedly involved in the murder of Sara Millerey González, which occurred at the beginning of April, was in the same way reported in Bello (Antioquia). The arrested man, known as Chucky, was put into custody of the authorities for the crimes of torture and aggravated homicide.
