One of them would be alias Orejas, who is accused of being the group ringleader in the municipality of Peque and brother of alias Alberto 01, the main ringleader of the Edwin Román Velásquez Valle substructure of that Organized Armed Group.
In assistance to the early warning 017, 2018, issued by the office of the Ombudsman, in the middle of an operation conducted by troops of the National Army, joint, coordinated and inter-agency Air Force, the Police, and the Prosecutor's office, in the military operations three alleged members of the GAO Clan del Golfo died. After the firefighting, a fourth member of this same criminal organization surrendered to the authorities.
Among those whose threat was neutralized, there are alias Orejas, who had been part of the Northeast Bloc of the former Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia until 2005, the year in which he began his demobilization process. As of 2020, he reportedly became the head of the armed group of the substructure Edwin Román Velásquez, of that Organized Armed Group, in the municipality of Ituango, north of Antioquia; since then he would be in charge of the security of another ringleader, his brother alias Alberto 01.
Alias Orejas would have participated in the murder of a captain, a corporal and two soldiers on November 7, 2021, in events that occurred in the municipality of Santa Lucía, rural area of Ituango. He was in the same way accused of participating in the attack on a police patrol in a rural area of the municipality of Frontino, in which a major and a patrol man were killed.
Three 5.56 mm Galil rifles, a 9 mm pistol, more than 1,000 units of ammunition of different calibres, 12 magazines, a communications radio, five cell phones, cash, military accessories, as well as items of interest to military intelligence were found by troops in the operation.
In the area, the military operations conducted by the National Army continue to take place, with the objective of continuing to harm the logistic and criminal networks of the GAO Clan del Golfo that commits crimes there, and thus works for the security and well-being of the inhabitants of northern Antioquia.
