The finding of ELN explosives in Maicao shows a serious violation of human rights and violation of international humanitarian law.
In the rural area of the municipality of Maicao, Department of La Guajira, soldiers of the Medium Cavalry Group General Gustavo Matamoros DCosta, of the Tenth Brigade, in coordination with the National Police, in the last few hours found an illegal hiding place with abundant war material belonging to the Northern War Front, of the organized armed group ELN.
Thanks to information provided by military intelligence, the authorities found 16 rudimentary 26-kilo launchers and 3 large-caliber 100-kilo launchers, in addition to 20 improvised explosive devices and 200 meters of two wire cable.
According to the investigations, this material was going to be used to attack the units of the Military Forces and the inhabitants, which represents a serious threat to the security and well-being of communities in the region.
