Three minors of age, belonging to the Embera Katio indigenous community, who had a serious chronic malaria episode, were evacuated by the National Army, from the rural area of Carmen del Darién, in the department of Chocó to the Urabá region in Antioquia, to receive specialized medical assistance. The Diagnosis was made thanks to the Medical Group that arrived on Wednesday March 20 in the area.

The events occurred in the Alto Guayabal district, where an Army Aviation helicopter arrived in with specialized equipment to handle this kind of emergency. With a doctor and a nurse, the children, two boys, two years old, and a one-year-old girl, together with their parents, were transported because of their acute medical condition.

Being aware of this situation, a helicopter Huey II was sent from Carepa, Antioquia, and after 45 minutes it landed on an improvised heliport made by the troops. In the arms of the military the children were taken one by one to the aircraft.

When they reached their destination, an ambulance took them to the Apartadó PanAmerican Clinic, where they were admitted to be evaluated and begin a treatment that helps to overcome their condition.

This humanitarian operation took place, thanks to the rapid institutional reaction, which led to save the lives of these three children and also demonstrates the commitment of the National Army to the protection and wellbeing of the civilian population, especially the most vulnerable. In the area the military will continue to support the communities of this area of the department of Chocó.
