Operations of the National Army in Rivera, in the department of Huila, against illegal mining

For the crime of unlawful exploitation of renewable natural resources in accordance with article 328 of the Penal Code.

In security and defense operations of the Military Forces, units of the Artillery Battalion No.9 'Tenerife' of the Ninth Brigade, seized materials that were used to carry out illegal mining activities on the banks of the Magdalena River.

The events occurred in the village El Arenoso, in the municipality of Rivera, Huila, where the soldiers carried out tactical tasks of perimeter search, which led them to find two dredgers, four motor pumps, eight floats, four hoses, three filters and a toolkit.

Apparently, this material was being used to carry out illegal mining activities on the banks of the Magdalena River, causing environmental deterioration in the sector, due to the exploitation of gold, so it is urgent and necessary to take measures to prevent further damage to the environment.

The materials were put into custody of the Third Prosecutor's Office of Neiva, for the crime of unlawful exploitation of renewable natural resources in accordance with article 328 of the Criminal Code.
