Army supports the extinguishing of forest fires in Cundinamarca

The soldiers have managed to mitigate the effects caused by the high temperatures in the department.

In the first days of the year, troops of the Mechanized Cavalry Group No. 10 'Tequendama', attached to the 13th Brigade of the National Army, in a coordinated work with the Departmental Risk Management Unit, the Cundinamarca Fire Department and Municipal authorities, have been deployed in the municipalities of Sibaté, Zipaquirá, Cajicá, Tabio, Chia, Nemocón and Anolaima, working on the mitigation of forest fires reported by the community.

Since Monday, 26 cases related to forest fires caused by the phenomenon 'El Niño' have been attended. This climate condition has generated heavy droughts, constant frosts and winds, causing damages to approximately 119 hectares in the department. Additionally there is the lack of care and bad practices of some citizens who generate flames with the use of household fuel elements.

The command of the Brigade 13 of the National Army, makes a call to the community to prevent the realization of burning or fires and not to leave matches, cigarette or bottles that generate fires in the forests, contributing in this way to the protection of natural resources.
