The operation led to the arrest of two of its members, after reported fighting in the region.
As part of the military operations against the residual organized armed groups (GAO-r), the troops of the Ninth Brigade of the National Army neutralize the plans of the so-called Jorge Suárez Briceño bloc, Darío Gutiérrez substructure, in the Nueva Reforma village of the municipality of Baraya.
The powerful operation was possible thanks to the joint work conducted by the Artillery Battalion N ° 9 Tenerife, the Aviation Battalion of Mobility and Maneuvers N ° 5, the Colombian Aerospace Force and in coordination with the Elite Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the National Police.
During thorough operations, the military units carried out an armed confrontation against members of this criminal structure, who had previously murdered a woman, facts that are already being investigated by the authorities and will be denounced for their flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
Thus, in their attempt to flee and in the frame of the clashes, two of the members of this illegal group were injured and later detained by the troops, who provided them with first aid in strict adherence to human rights and international humanitarian law.
During the mission, the troops found a 5.56-millimeter galil rifle, a 9-millimeter pistol, a 38-millimeter revolver, 47 cartridges of different calibers, two magazines, a sight, a mobile phone and a motorcycle.
This military operation represents an important blow against the group intentions of logistically and financially strengthening, whose plans included extortion activities, forced recruitment of minors, coercion and displacement of the inhabitants of countryside people.
Thanks to this operation, the life and good physical condition of the inhabitants of the north of Huila are safeguarded and the commitment of the soldiers of the Ninth Brigade in favor of the security and tranquility of the inhabitants of Huila is reaffirmed. The troops will continue to carry out sustained operations to work on creating a safe environment, especially in the context of the San Pedro festivities season, promoting that local and visitors can enjoy the traditional festivities peacefully.
