Baby is born aboard a unit of the National Navy in Buenaventura

cogfm_nacimiento_bebe_arc.jpg

This birth was well received by the operation of the crew members of the Pacific Naval Force, who during 2018 made 71 evacuations of the inhabitants of the most vulnerable communities of the Pacific Coast

Buenaventura. An indigenous pregnant woman of the community of Juanchaco gave birth to a baby aboard a Coast Guard Unit of the National Navy, which evacuated her to a specialized hospital center in the port of Buenaventura, in the department of Valle del Cauca, along with another pregnant woman.

The community of Juanchaco, one hour far by boat from the port of Buenaventura, has only one health post, due to this and the high-risk status of the two women, who had begun labor, the community doctor requested help of the Pacific Naval Force to evacuate the women, who immediately sent a Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Unit to the area.

During the trip to the city of Buenaventura, one of the women started labor and was attended by the doctor and the staff of the Coastguard Unit of Buenaventura who helped the birth of the baby without complications.

Upon reaching the pier, the two women and the newborn were taken in an ambulance to a hospital center in the port; the child and his mother are in good health conditions.
