The finding was possible, thanks to a chase that lasted approximately 30 minutes.
During last week, the Naval Institution in the Chocoan Pacific Ocean, has found more than 4.4 tons of narcotics.
Within the framework of the operations carried out by the Colombian Navy against the transnational crime of drug trafficking, Coast Guard units of the Pacific Naval Force found more than a ton of marijuana on board a ship, crewed by three individuals of Panamanian nationality, and that would have as its final destination, Central America.
The operation took place when a Rapid Reaction Unit - URR of the Coast Guard Station of Bahía Solano, with the support of an aircraft of the Joint Interagency Task Force of the Southern Command of the United States - JIATFS, detected a ship that was traveling suspiciously 160 nautical miles of the municipality of Bahía Solano, department Chocó, so the Colombian Sailors began a chase of almost half an hour, until the maritime interception of the boat.
Inside the boat, 43 sacks of different shapes and sizes were found by troops; the contents, due to their characteristics and smell, resembled illicit substances. On the spot, due to adverse weather conditions, the boat began to have failures in its engines, which made navigation impossible and caused its sinking.
The three arrested individuals and the material found were taken to a safe port, where officials of the Technical Investigation Corps - CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test – PIPH, determining that the packages contained 1,054 kilograms of marijuana.
The arrested personnel were put into custody of the authorities in order to carry out the corresponding judicial procedures.
Through this result, the Naval Institution prevented the entry of more than six million dollars into the finances of the drug trafficking organizations that commit crimes in the region, as well as the marketing of more than 170 thousand doses of narcotics on the streets of the world.
