General Laura J. Richardson, Commander of the Southern Command of the United States, landed yesterday at 5:30 pm at the Military Transport Air Command- CATAM in Bogotá, to open the bilateral cooperation agenda on space issues in Colombia together with Bill Nelson, Director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States (NASA).
In this way, the Commander of the Southern Command of the United States and the Director of NASA will fulfill a three-day agenda, which includes meetings with the National Government, the high command of the Military Forces, an academic talk in Maloka and a visit to the Space Operations Center (SpOC) of the Colombian Aerospace Force.
In partnership with the United States Embassy in Colombia, Maloka will be the atmosphere of the first event of this official visit to the country, with the talk Discover the future with NASA where fundamental topics on science, technology, engineering, mathematics education and the role played by the Artemis Generation in the progress of space exploration will be addressed.
Similarly, on Wednesday, August 2, this delegation will make a tour of the Colombian Aerospace Force SpOC at the Military Aviation School in Cali, which was inaugurated by the National Government on July 28, 2022. During this visit, the Director of NASA and the Commander of the U.S. Southern Command, will learn about the resources of the command, control and execution of space operations that Colombia counts on and the research and innovation activities that the Colombian Aerospace Force is currently carrying out in this area.
As reported by NASA “this visit seeks to deepen bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas related to innovation and research, especially in Earth sciences. The aim is to achieve our nations' mutual goals of addressing climate change and net-zero emissions by 2050.”
The Colombian Aerospace Force is the Institution responsible for the space sector in the country, which is why it strengthens its commitment by assuming the challenge of the space domain for the governance, sovereignty and defense of the Nation.
