A blow against organized crime: release of a minor in Barranquilla

Golpe al crimen organizado: liberación de menor de edad en Barranquilla

In a coordinated operation, troops of the Second Brigade of Colombian National Army, the Caribbean Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), the Military Intelligence Battalion N°.1 and the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), released a minor and arrested in flagrante delicto an individual accused of kidnapping in the La Manga neighborhood of Barranquilla.

The rescued young man is handed over to the authorities through the Colombian Family Wellbeing Institute - ICBF-, who restore his rights and took him to his family in Cali.

The detainee, who committed crimes nationwide and was allegedly at the service of the common crime group Los Costeños, is accused of carrying out attacks and selective murders against merchants in Barranquilla under the orders of the ringleader known as alias Castor. In addition, he is linked to the armed structure Nicolás Antonio Urango Reyes, of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo and with the Gaitanist Self-defense Forces of Colombia that operate in Valle del Cauca. The arrested man has four previous convictions for murder, illegal possession of weapons and drug trafficking. Under deception and false promises, this individual recruited and kidnapped minors from various regions of the country, such as Santa Marta, Cartagena, Cali, Medellín and Pasto, later forcing them to commit criminal acts.
