In commemoration of the 215th anniversary of Colombian National Army and the 206th anniversary of the Battle of Boyacá, today a tribute was paid to those who give their lives for the benefit of the country.
30 men and women of Colombian National Army were decorated with the Antonio Nariño and José María Córdova medals.
The commemoration of the 215 years of Colombian National Army was held at the emblematic monument declared cultural heritage of the Nation, in the Campo de Boyacá, led by the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro, accompanied by the Vice President; Francia Márquez, the Minister of National Defense, Pedro Sánchez Suárez, other members of the National Government, the Chief of defence of Colombia, Admiral Francisco Hernando Cubides Granados, high military and National Police commanders.
There, the President, Gustavo Petro spoke, among other topics, about the importance of the soldiers who are part of what he called “the flow of history” and highlighted that “peace will be achieved as long as we fill the gaps that exist in society (...) freedom is the overcoming of the needs.”
Then, the head of state referred to the decrease in the homicide rate per 100 thousand inhabitants, in the department of Boyacá, since, according to figures presented by the president, “at the moment the department presents a rate of three people murdered per 100 thousand inhabitants.”
During this solemn ceremony, 30 military and civilian men and women received the Antonio Nariño and José María Córdova medals, 10 of them are soldiers wounded in operation and the others received this recognition for virtue and military spirit, discipline, dedication to work, work and scientific research, among others.
