Brave Women, heroines who lost their lives for peace

cogfm-arc-valientes-mujeres-29.gif

The Marine Infantry Training Base, in Coveñas, Sucre, held a Eucharistic celebration in honor of the Fallen Heroes in operation in the sector of 'The eternal flame', accompanied by the Chief of Staff, the Commanders of the tactical units and a staff of Officers, NCOs and infantry men of the base.

On this occasion, the memory of the lieutenant of corvette Laura Rocío Prieto Forero (RIP), who was born in Bucaramanga 'City of Parks', was exalted. She obtained the title of lawyer. She was selected among approximately 1,500 applicants, managing to enter the Navy as an officer of the military criminal justice corps, having her first unit destination the Military Criminal Court 104 at the Naval Base of Puerto Leguízamo (Putumayo).

On the day of the unfortunate event, the officer was going from Puerto Leguízamo to the municipality of La Tagua in Putumayo to conduct a judicial proceeding in this place, when she was surprised by explosive charges and gas cylinders planted by outlaw groups. In the attack nine soldiers lost their lives, becoming the only woman of the Military Forces killed by direct operation of the enemy.

In this way, the Navy of Colombia remembers the heroine women, who have lost their lives demonstrating courage and love to the Homeland in fulfillment of the constitutional mission and protecting the Blue color of the Flag.
