In less than 24 hours, 2,194 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride have been found in two operations, preventing drug trafficking organizations from receiving nearly USD $ 74 million.
Thanks to the rapid reaction of units of the Colombian Navy Coast Guard units with the support of a U.S. military aircraft, it was possible to successfully intercept a Go Fast boat carrying 2,061 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride while transiting in Caribbean Sea waters near the island of San Andr茅s. The drug found belonged to the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo.
The speedboat with five individuals on board, all Colombians transporting the illegal merchandise, was headed for Central America when it was intercepted by a Rapid Reaction Unit 鈥揢RR - of the San Andr茅s Coast Guard, whose crew found inside 85 sacks with 2,061 rectangular packages containing the illicit substance.
The interception takes place thanks to the operational synergy and joint work in which an oceanic patrol ship and maritime patrol aircraft of the Colombian Navy and a North American JIAFT-S aircraft participated, which are air and naval assets that helped to find, contact and guide the Rapid Reaction Units of the Coast Guard to the point of interception.
The boat was taken to the main dock of the San Andr茅s Coast Guard Station, where staff of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Attorney General's Office conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test (PIPH), which tested positive for cocaine hydrochloride. In the same way, a 9 mm pistol, 14 cartridges of the same caliber, two magazines, cell and satellite phones and a GPS were found by troops.
The drug, the five arrested and the material found were put into custody of officials of the Attorney General's Office.
With this severe blow to drug trafficking organizations, the Colombian and U.S. Military forces managed to prevent more than $ 66 million, the price of illegal merchandise on the illegal international market, from entering the financial structures of criminal groups outlaw. In the same way, with this finding the Caribbean Naval Force adds more than 69 tons of cocaine hydrochloride found in the year.
