Within the framework of the High-level Dialogue conducted by Colombia and Sweden, led by the Swedish Foreign Minister, Maria Malmer Stenergard, the solid bilateral relationship was reaffirmed and new goals were set to advance in areas of common interest.
On this occasion, the Minister of National Defense, Iván Velásquez Gómez, together with the Minister of Justice and Law, Ángela Buitrago and the Swedish Foreign Minister, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Law Enforcement Cooperation between Colombia and Sweden. This important instrument seeks to strengthen binational collaboration in the fight against transnational organized crime.
Some of the commitments are:
1. Information exchange: Provision of strategic data and military operations to combat common threats.
2. Instruction: Joint training and knowledge transfer programs between Colombian and Swedish authorities.
3. Best practices: Development of strategies to confront drug trafficking, firearms trafficking, cybercrime, money laundering and terrorism.
The memorandum represents a significant step in the consolidation of security and defense cooperation, supported by the agreements reached during the 4th Defense Cooperation Meeting of 2024.
Through these activities, Colombia and Sweden strengthen their commitment to building a safer environment and promoting peace and justice at the international level.
