In coordination with the Colombian Ocean Agency, the Colombian Air Force participates with a research and operational component in the Ninth Scientific Expedition and Fifth Air Campaign, as part of compliance with the Colombian Antarctic Program- PAC, in this strategic planetary ecosystem.
The objective of Colombia with this expedition is to project the country as a preponderant actor within the Antarctic Treaty System. This activity is the opportunity to materialize the research, international cooperation and training work of Colombia in this continent, the main regulator of the world climate in which all the oceans of the planet converge, including those bordering the Colombian Pacific, to the Caribbean Sea that contributes its waters to the Atlantic Ocean.
In such a way that this Sunday, January 22, a C–130 Hercules aircraft will take off of the Military Transport Air Command - CATAM- to strengthen the operational capacity acquired since 2015 in air operations, through the training of new crews in extreme environments and thus contribute to bilateral cooperation with other countries and allied air forces that have worked in that territory.
This research contribution of the Colombian Air Force will lead the country to exchange and transfer technical and scientific knowledge in the field of aerospace medicine and increase the operational resources acquired by the Institution.
