Colombia, Ecuador and Peru define areas of interest to launch operations on the triple border

Colombia, Ecuador y Per煤 definen 谩reas de inter茅s para lanzar operaciones ofensivas en la triple frontera

After more than a year of analysis and exchange of intelligence information, the military forces of the three countries specified the areas where they carry out high-level operations to hit the illegal structures that have criminal presence on the triple border.

The operations will be carried out within the framework of the Colombia - Ecuador - Peru Military Intelligence Tripartite the first meeting of this type to be held in the field of intelligence, becoming a historical and highly relevant event of the military operation and international cooperation.

Puerto Leguizamo Putumayo, was the city chosen to hold for the first time the Colombia - Ecuador - Peru Military Intelligence Tripartite, a high-level meeting in which the military commanders of the three nations that share territory on the triple border were summoned. On behalf of Colombia the event counted on Admiral Francisco Hernando Cubides Granados, Chief of defence of Colombia, on behalf of Peru, Army General David Guillermo Ojeda Parra, Head of the Joint Command of the Military Forces, and Vice Admiral Enrique Humberto Aristiz谩bal Viteri, Chief of the General Staff of the military operation of the Joint Command of the Military Forces, on behalf of Ecuador.

In this historic meeting, which becomes the first of its kind, the delegations of the three countries agreed and defined the Named Areas of Interest, where the combined operations that will be carried out simultaneously in the triple border area will be concentrated, especially against the illegal armed structures with criminal presence in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

In addition, a roadmap was drawn up to be executed in the area of operations where it is expected to vigorously attack the main sources of illicit financing of these groups outlaw, including drug trafficking, illegal mining, illicit firearms trafficking, migration, smuggling and wildlife trafficking.

It is noteworthy that the Tripartite, arises of the cooperation mechanisms that Colombia conducts with nations of the region, on this occasion, through the exchange of information that has been conducting for more than two decades in the COMBIFRON - Binational Border Group-. In June 2024, the necessity of doing so with the three countries that share a border was born, thus materializing the Tripartite.

It is expected that, with the definition of these areas, the intelligence efforts and the military operation of the three countries will be coordinated as an essential instrument for strengthening border security and binational cooperation that will result in the tranquility of its inhabitants and contribute to regional security.
