Colombia reaffirms its global leadership in the fight against drug trafficking

Colombia reafirma su liderazgo global en la lucha contra el narcotráfico

More than 7,200 tons of drugs found and 780 extraditions reflect the country's international cooperation and sustained operation against transnational crime during the current period of government.

Between 2022 and 2025, the military Forces and the National Police have found more than 7,279 tons of illicit drugs, a figure that reflects the magnitude of the Colombian State's sustained work in the fight against drug trafficking, the main source of financing for violence. This result consolidates an annual average of more than 1,800 tons, positioning this period among the most effective in terms of results of the military operation.

Cocaine represents the core of the operations, with more than 2,700 tons found during the current administration, equivalent to 27 billion doses that did not reach the streets of the world. So far in 2025, more than 820 tons of cocaine have been seized, which is an increase of 7% compared to the same period in 2024. These results reflect a coordinated and permanent operation in the main drug trafficking routes, with a direct impact on the finances of criminal organizations.

In parallel, the operations against the production facilities show a sustained advance. During this year, one laboratory has been destroyed every 40 minutes, a figure that would be 24% higher than the results of 2024. In total, 17,838 laboratories have been destroyed between 2022 and 2025, of which 96% correspond to facilities specialized in the production of coca paste base. In the same way noteworthy is the increase of the neutralization of cocaine hydrochloride laboratories, a number that grew from 74 in 2022 to 203 in 2025, which is a sign of a more precise operation against the stages of production.

“We are analyzing to promote that chemical engineers develop a kind of molecule that, when added to the fuel, damages the production of cocaine, but that it does not damage the vehicles nor diminish the main function of gasoline,” Minister Pedro Sánchez Suárez added in this regard.

Coca leaf and marijuana have in the same way reported sustained reductions in seized volumes, which could be associated with military and police pressure in cultivation and transit areas. Although global volumes decreased compared to 2024, the results of 2025 stand out for the tactical effectiveness and greater efficiency of military operations in the face of more segmented criminal structures.

The Minister of National Defense, Pedro Sánchez Suárez, in the same way reported that more than 780 people have been extradited for crimes related to drug trafficking, reaffirming Colombia's commitment to international cooperation and the joint fight against transnational crime.

Overall, the results of the 2022-2025 period confirm the effectiveness and continuity of the comprehensive anti-drug policy, focused on interception, destruction of constructions and coordination with international justice. The Colombian State is constant in its sustained pressure on illicit activities, directly damaging the military and financial operations capacity of drug trafficking organizations.
