With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on surveillance and air interception, the Colombian Air Force and the Belice Defense Force reaffirm their commitments.
In order to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the countries of Central America and the Caribbean, General Ramses Rueda Rueda, Commander of the Colombian Air Force, and his counterpart Brigadier General Steven Ortega, Commander of the Belice Defense Force, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on surveillance and air interception, on October 25, 2021, in the City of Belice.
During the event, held at the facilities of the Command of the Defense Force of Belize, both delegations expressed, with the implementation of this international instrument, their commitment to conduct combined operations, of air defence, with the aim of establishing standards and increase Resources for the coordination and response to be conducted by the Centres of Command and Control of both institutions, as well as, the exchange of experiences and lessons from the past to face the threats related to transnational organized crime.
This new agreement, in the framework of the strategy Zeus, led by the Colombian Air Force, will generate spaces to identify new opportunities for mutual support, to the benefit of the Institutions and of both nations. It will continue to build operations synergy with countries of the region, to ensure the control of the airspace and to conduct combined operations in the fight against organizations that perpetrated drug trafficking, especially by air.
In addition, the strategy is a challenge with the regional, hemispheric and global, and it seeks to block the air bridge of drug trafficking in Central America and The Caribbean, as well as, to neutralize the criminal networks of drug trafficking and other associated phenomena. The delegation of the Colombian Air Force held meetings with agencies committed to providing technical assistance in the areas of security, justice and prevention of organized crime.
