The Vice Minister of Defense, Jairo García, participated this Tuesday in a tour that the Colombian and Ecuadorian authorities made along the border between the two countries, to verify the controls implemented jointly in the framework of the emergency by Covid-19.

After the tour by the Carchi Bridge, one of the 37 irregular crossings that exist on the border, a coordination meeting was held in which the joint strategy of presence and border control was verified. The Foreign Ministry, the Border Management of the Presidency of the Republic, Migracion Colombia, the Third Division of the National Army, the National Police, local authorities and Ecuadorian military authorities in the same way participated in this meeting.

"The Security forces have been deployed to carry out the greatest coverage, with the permanent collaboration of the brothers from Ecuador. We have had a relationship with the 'Operation Espejo', with which there is a coverage that strengthens the ability to detect the border movements," said Vice Minister Garcia.

Through 'Operation Espejo', the authorities seek to counteract the illegal migration between the two nations, so the Armies of Colombia and Ecuador, in coordination with the Police of the two countries, with the coordinated work conducted by the institutions, seek to strengthen security measures to guarantee the well-being and tranquility of civilians in both countries in times of the Covid-19 crisis.
