In a joint military operation to protect the environment, units of the Brigade against the Illicit Exploitation of Mining deposits, the Military Intelligence Battalion N.° 5, the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, the Carabineros Police and Corpocaldas intervened in a mining area on the banks of the Cauca River, in Riosucio, department of Caldas, countering this illegal activity that generates serious damage to the biodiversity of the department.
Thanks to this inter-institutional coordination, it was possible to intervene in 15 mining production units and arrest 11 people in the Trujillo village for the alleged crime of illegal exploitation of mining sites.
During the operations, the troops found 2 dredgers, 12 engines, 8 motor pumps, 500 meters of 5-inch hose, 480 units of flora (guadua - cane) and 10 meters of common wood.
The material found and disabled was estimated to cost approximately 200 million pesos and those arrested obtained illegal income close to 32 million COP per month.
The arrested people were put into custody of the authority for their respective prosecution.
Colombian National Army will continue to conduct military operations for the protection of the environment and the fight against environmental crimes in the Coffee Axis region.
