Within the framework of the Campaign Plan Ayacucho Plus, aimed at fulfilling the objective number two: Reduce the enemy's capacity, troops of the 27th Field Artillery Battalion, attached to the Twenty-Seventh Brigade of the Sixth Division of Colombian National Army, reported an important result of the military operation in coordination with intelligence resources of the 30th Navy Infantry River Battalion of the National Navy, by detecting an illegal hideout with more than a ton of ANFO-type explosive.
Thanks to accurate information and technical analysis-of the military operation, it was possible to find the illegal hiding place in the village Las Palmas, municipality of Villagarz贸n, department of Putumayo. 16 sacks containing approximately 1,030 kilograms of ANFO-type explosive were found by troops at the site, belonging to the residual organized armed group Comandos de Frontera, a structure attached to so called Coordinadora Nacional Guerrillera del Ej茅rcito Bolivariano. This material, under the criminal command of the individual known as Pasinga, an alleged illegal armed combatant ringleader, would be planned to be used for the manufacture of more than 2,500 improvised explosive devices, including anti-personnel mines.
Through this operation, Colombian National Army and the Navy neutralize a serious threat against the inhabitants and troops in the south of the country, directly damaging the logistical and criminal capacity of this criminal structure that commits crimes in the region. The illegal hideout was destroyed in controlled conditions, in accordance with established protocols.
The case was brought to the assistance of the Attorney General's Office, through the Specialized Directorate against Criminal Organizations. In the same way, a denunciation was posed about the indiscriminate use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which constitute a violation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), since this type of unconventional practices unnecessarily endanger the inhabitants.
