The members of the dissidents are allegedly using everyday objects, such as thermoses, to hide improvised explosive devices with shrapnel, to activate them through remote control cable systems.
Within the framework of military operations carried out in the rural area of the municipality of Támara, department of Casanare, troops of the Sixteenth Brigade of Colombian National Army reported the finding of an illicit hiding place belonging to the organized armed group Structure 28, where a significant amount of war items, explosives, military accessories items and medical supplies were found by troops.
During the operation, improvised explosive devices, grenades, magazines for weapons, vests and other items used for terrorist acts were found by troops. In the same way, the troops confiscated several medical supplies that, apparently, were used to provide support to members of this illegal armed structure who were injured during clashes.
One of the most worrying findings was the identification of a method of concealing explosives in everyday-looking objects, an activity that demonstrates the contempt of these criminal structures for the life and integrity of the inhabitants. This type of acts considerably increases the risk for the inhabitants of rural areas, who could confuse these elements with objects of common use.
Peasants, children, the elderly and other inhabitants of the populated centers and villages are those who face the greatest danger, carrying out their daily activities on roads, farms and community spaces where these devices can be abandoned or hidden.
This modality turns any seemingly harmless object into a potential threat to the safety and life of the community.
Through this result of the military operation, Colombian National Army affects the logistical and criminal resources of this organized armed group and prevents this element from being used to attack the Military Forces and, especially, against the inhabitants, the main victim of this type of indiscriminate acts.
The explosives were destroyed in controlled conditions by the Explosives and Demolitions Group EXDE, of the Eighth Division of Colombian National Army, using specialized protocols that led to neutralize the threat without affecting people or the environment.
