Last June 4, 2024, an overflow of the La Quincha stream occurred, which caused a mass removal and undermining in the sector known as the Puente Peatonal. As a response, immediate work was carried out, in order to generate the containment of the slope, and in this way prevent interruptions in the channel.
During 73 days of hard work, the Brigade of Engineers for Disaster Care and Prevention, as part of the National Disaster Risk Management System (SNGRD), carried out an intervention on the left bank of La Quincha stream, where a 3-level wall was erected, with an approximate length of 30 meters and up to 4.70 meters high in the bridge sector, in addition 120 gabions were installed with 280 m3 of stone.
Rescue soldiers, in coordination with the Mayor's Office of Villapinzón, the Special Administrative Unit for Risk Management of Cundinamarca (UAEGRD) and the Regional Autonomous Corporation (CAR), successfully completed the construction of this containment work in the municipality, which directly benefits more than 1,000 people and, indirectly, about 10,000 inhabitants of the municipality.
The works included a protection system with geotextile for water management, the terracing of slopes and a section of 15-meter wooden trenches that reinforce the containment.
This work is of vital importance for the municipality since it increases the stability of slopes that threatened the houses, roads and plantations of the sector, being a technical solution that evidences the effective coordination conducted by institutions of the national and regional order, which contributed specialized labor, machinery and technical resources.
It should be noted that there will be a second phase in which a landscape design will be implemented that will include reforestation and terracing.
Colombian National Army, through its specialized units, reaffirms its commitment to risk management, the protection of life and the well-being of the most vulnerable communities.
Through this type of operations, it is demonstrated that the soldier's operation goes beyond defense: it is in the same way development, stability and permanent support to the regions that need them most.
