In compliance with the principles of legality, transparency and responsible administration of State resources, the Colombian National Army conducted the controlled distribution of 100 tons of decommissioned weaponry to the steel company Diaco S.A., in order to carry out its definitive destruction for its subsequent transformation into steel for productive purposes.
The elements were previously declared decommissioned through the corresponding administrative acts, in accordance with the current regulations on the final disposal of war elements. This activity is part of the processes of modernization and logistical purification of the Forces and does not constitute, under any circumstances, firearms marketing.
In addition, the items were transported under strict security measures from different military units in different regions of the country to the industrial plant found in the municipality of Tuta, in the department of Boyacá. The transfer was carried out through special logistics operations, with permanent custody and traceability operations that work to ensure the integrity of the cargo throughout the journey, in accordance with the protocols established for this type of operations.
A technical process under strict regulations
The disintegration of the elements is carried out through specialized industrial procedures that include irreversible disablement, fragmentation and melting, under rigorous physical security protocols, documentary traceability and environmental control.
During all phases of the process, personnel designated by Colombian National Army exercise permanent supervision, work by carrying out the technical review, the custody of the elements and the official certification of their destruction, in strict compliance with the established legal and administrative standards.
From service to transformation
The weapons fulfilled a cycle of the military operation at the service of the defense and security of Colombians. Today, in a symbolic act of responsible transformation, that same metal leaves behind its military function to integrate into the national productive processes.
The resulting steel will be destined exclusively to industrial processes that promote construction, development and economic growth, ensuring that it is not reused for the manufacture of weapons or similar elements.
Security, sustainability and trust
This coordination conducted by the public sector and the productive sector reflects an institutional model in which national security is strengthened not only through the updating of resources, but in the same way through the transparent and environmentally responsible final disposal of unused elements.
With actions like this, Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to the efficient management of State resources, environmental sustainability and the construction of a country that transforms its resources at the pace of the challenges of the present and the opportunities of the future.
