Colombian Navy brings a hope to Santa Catalina Island

cogfm-armada-colombia-transporte-planta-electrica-isla-santa-catalina-28.jpg

With the mission to restore the light to the island of Santa Catalina, a group of Colombian Marines joined their efforts to transport an electricity generator that weights about a ton for the people of the archipelago.

For this operation, the transportation was made on board a small barge towed by a Coast Guard Unit from the island of Providence. On the island, a large group of Officers, Noncommissioned Officers and Marines, led by Rear Admiral Juan Ricardo Rozo Obregón, the commander of the Naval Force of the Caribbean, unload this equipment on the Malecón, using ingenuity and strength.

However, the operation required moving the electricity generator to a point located approximately 500 meters away. For this, it was adapted with six tubes, a rail that allowed the movement of the huge generator.

The maneuver, which took about three hours and the strength of many men, ended with the location of the generator on the court where, the next day, electricians from the Colombian Navy managed to provide basic power to the homes of this island community affected by the hurricane IOTA.
