In joint operations of search and control of rivers, the Navy of Colombia and the National Army, dealt a hard blow to the illegal mining on the river Cauca, in the department of Antioquia. Troops found different items used for the illegal extraction of minerals, among them, 11 dredges, 21-type motor pump set, six pistons, three excavators and a electricity generator in the municipalities of Nech铆 and C谩ceres in the department of Antioquia.
In the same way, 1,500 grams of mercury were found by troops that had been abandoned in the municipality of C谩ceres, Antioquia. This chemical element represents a source of environmental pollution that generates harmful effects on water sources, with negative consequences on aquatic fauna and the environment.
No arrests were reported during the operations. The materials were put into custody of the local authorities.
