River Support Boats, Combat Logistics Patrol Boats, Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Units and more than 400 crew members are ready to provide support in this emergency.
In an inter-institutional work with local authorities, the Colombian Navy deployed its military, logistical and human talent resources to support the evacuation and relocation of dozens of families, inhabitants of vulnerable and high–risk sectors of Puerto Carreño - Vichada, who have been hit due to the overflow of the Orinoco, Meta and Bita rivers, due to the rainy season.
Troops of the Navy Infantry Battalion No. 51 arrived to the Santa Teresita neighborhood, to support the people hit by the floods in their homes, due to the increase in the level of these rivers; which has left more than 500 people in emergency in this region of the country.
Thanks to the coordinated work conducted by the Naval Institution, the municipal Mayor's Office of Puerto Carreño, the Colombian Red Cross, the Volunteer Fire Department of Puerto Carreño and the Disaster Risk Management Unit - UNGRD -, food, blankets and drinking water have been distributed, among other humanitarian aid, to these families have that have been evacuated to the temporary shelters designated by the local administration.
As a member of the National System for the Prevention and Assistance of Disasters, the Colombian Navy, through the Naval Force of the Orinoquía, will continue to support with river and logistical means, humanitarian assistance to coastal communities that may be hit because of this rainy season.
